What does it really mean to attend an all-boys private middle and high school? At Christian Brothers Academy, it means your son will receive an exceptional Catholic education in tandem with the life lessons to graduate as a well-rounded young man eager to contribute to his society. This tutelage begins the instant a child is accepted to CBA, an invitation accompanied by a firm handshake and a welcome to the Brotherhood, a fraternity in which supporting each other and serving others is of utmost importance.
Congratulations to Jordan King ’19 on becoming the 7th player in CBA history to score 1000 points! Jordan reached this milestone during the February 10 game against Schenectady.
Congratulations to Hunter Pemrick ’19 on becoming CBA hockey’s all-time points leader! Pemrick scored his 124th goal on January 25 against Bethlehem.
Scattered throughout Ned McGraw Gymnasium on Friday night were reminders of 50 years of an incredible athletic legacy for Dave Doemel, from teammates during his playing days at Christian Brothers Academy to the countless players he coached in both basketball and baseball at the school. As the final buzzer sounded, the Brothers had secured a 66-48 victory over Columbia in Suburban Council boys’ basketball action. With the win, Doemel surpassed Bill Telasky — the man he played for —to become the program’s all-time leader with 335 varsity victories.
It required overtime Friday night, but the Christian Brothers Academy boys’ basketball team managed to secure a 65-57 road victory at Averill Park. That Suburban Council triumph proved to be a historic win as it allowed coach Dave Doemel to tie Bill Telasky atop the all-time CBA coaching list with 334 victories. Doemel, who has guided the Brothers’ varsity program since the 1997-98 season, can surpass Telasky on Friday night if the Brothers (8-5 overall, 6-4 league) prevail against visiting Columbia (8-6, 7-4).
On Saturday, December 22, the Ned McGraw Gymnasium was transformed into a Winter Wonderland to host the 2018 Pops Concert. This concert, a seasonal favorite, celebrates and showcases the growth of our music program under the magnificent leadership of Ms. Sarah Waite.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CBA participated in the Capital District’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign on October 23. Brothers dressed down in special shirts and listened to presentations by Dr. Arsyl De Jesus, who spoke on behalf of the American Cancer Society, and Frieda Hammond-Carmer, who spoke about surviving her own battle with breast cancer.
