A Legacy Gift Inspired by Childhood Memories

Rick Manhey is a class of 1964 graduate and an active supporter of CBA. “My legacy gift is to provide funding to the administration for necessary expenses to the school. As I get older, I am able to give back to CBA in a way that will hopefully offer young men the same opportunity given to me.

“I feel extremely fortunate to have attended CBA in the early 60s. It has always been my feeling that the school gave me so much more than I gave back. Hard to believe that during those four years, I managed to avoid any time marching around the flagpole, thanks to the influence of the Brothers and lay teachers. What an achievement! The school provided me with leadership and teamwork skills through my participation in football, basketball and track. I credit the Brothers for providing a wonderful start to my life. The discipline, education and sports offered a well rounded basis to move forward. What a memorable time spend on De La Salle Road.

“I have always been able to keep my head held high when CBA has been mentioned. Very proud of the school’s accomplishments and what it has meant to me and the thousands of other young men as they have continued to find direction. The school is a place where boys can attend with the understanding that education, discipline, camaraderie, sports, music, friendships and much more await them.”

Rick graduated with a rank of Cadet Sergeant Major. His yearbook caption reads, “Ricks athletic prowess is well known to all of us at CBA. He has the proud distinction of being a three-letter man. Rick attained varsity letters in football, basketball and track. His magnificent athletic ability has not, however, hampered his grades as he has been a consistent Merit and Credit Roll student. Brian Farell ’64, Bill Quinn ’64 and just about everybody number among Rick’s friends. Next year Rick heads for college where we are confident continued success awaits him.

After all these years Rick has never forgotten the education he received at CBA. In honor of being a Brother he created a significant estate gift to help solidify the future of CBA for young men for years to come.
