JROTC

The Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) prepares high school students for leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens.

This includes activities both inside and outside of the classroom, such as service learning projects, opportunities to acquire the knowledge, discipline, and a sense of responsibility that is necessary in order to take charge of one’s future. The result is responsible cadets who are sure of themselves, can think on their own, and can express their ideas and opinions clearly and concisely.

Army Instructors

CBA’s JROTC program is proud to have military instructors, all of whom have over 20 years of service in the active Army. These instructors have served in every corner of the world, from Korea to Europe, to the Middle East, providing a level of leadership experience unique to a school of our size. They also coach the CBA drill team, color guard, rifle team, academic and leadership teams, and the Raider Challenge Team.

Programming that goes above and beyond

CBA students have the opportunity to attend special programs that build upon the JROTC program. Opportunities include:

  • JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge (JCLC)
  • Boy’s State
  • Rifle Team
  • Color Guard
  • Wansboro Rifles Drill Team

Academy Nominations (West Point, Air Force and Annapolis)

CBA is recognized as an Honor School with Distinction. As a result, our senior Army instructor can nominate up to five students per year to each of the three service academies, providing our students with a greater opportunity to receive an appointment. If your son has any interest in applying to an academy, contact SFC Herbert Reeves at (518) 452-9809, ext. 151 or reeves@cbaalbany.org.

Uniforms

2026-27: Due to the Army’s reduced JROTC budget and current JROTC Regulation 145-2, CBA JROTC is no longer able to supply and support the school’s daily uniform requirement. While this represents a change from past practice, our commitment to maintaining a strong and structured JROTC program remains unchanged.

The CBA JROTC Department will continue to issue key uniform components to all cadets, including black jackets, shoes, belts, belt buckles, ties, rank, and other required uniform items. These items will be distributed prior to the start of the school year on the following dates: August 26th from 8:00am-12:00 and August 27th from 12:00-4:00pm. This is for incoming Freshmen and new cadets. Exchanges will continue to be available for all cadets throughout the year as needed.  One key change to the uniform is that the rank will now be a pin worn on the collar instead of on the shoulders. Additionally, if you would like to purchase the black uniform sweater, it can only be done through the CBA website by clicking this link. If the link does not work, you can go to cbaalbany.org, click “Parents and Students” from and choose “Quartermaster Form” from the dropdown menu to purchase necessary items.

As CBA requires each cadet to wear a daily uniform, families will now coordinate the purchase of uniform items directly through Student Styles.  In working with Student Styles, they are able to provide a high school package of 2 shirts and two pairs of pants for $125. Student Styles can be contacted at 518-220-9244 or by visiting their website at https://student-styles.myshopify.com/

The school has two uniforms, the Army Class B (daily wear M T+ WED TH) and the Dress Blue (Friday) uniform.
