Coach Dave Doemel ’71 Reaches Milestone

Scattered throughout Ned McGraw Gymnasium on Friday night were reminders of 50 years of an incredible athletic legacy for Dave Doemel, from teammates during his playing days at Christian Brothers Academy to the countless players he coached in both basketball and baseball at the school. As the final buzzer sounded, the Brothers had secured a 66-48 victory over Columbia in Suburban Council boys’ basketball action. With the win, Doemel surpassed Bill Telasky — the man he played for —to become the program’s all-time leader with 335 varsity victories.

Dave Doemel ’71 on Verge of Taking School Wins Mark

It required overtime Friday night, but the Christian Brothers Academy boys’ basketball team managed to secure a 65-57 road victory at Averill Park. That Suburban Council triumph proved to be a historic win as it allowed coach Dave Doemel to tie Bill Telasky atop the all-time CBA coaching list with 334 victories. Doemel, who has guided the Brothers’ varsity program since the 1997-98 season, can surpass Telasky on Friday night if the Brothers (8-5 overall, 6-4 league) prevail against visiting Columbia (8-6, 7-4).

Christmas Pops Concert

On Saturday, December 22, the Ned McGraw Gymnasium was transformed into a Winter Wonderland to host the 2018 Pops Concert. This concert, a seasonal favorite, celebrates and showcases the growth of our music program under the magnificent leadership of Ms. Sarah Waite.

Real Brothers Wear Pink

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CBA participated in the Capital District’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign on October 23. Brothers dressed down in special shirts and listened to presentations by Dr. Arsyl De Jesus, who spoke on behalf of the American Cancer Society, and Frieda Hammond-Carmer, who spoke about surviving her own battle with breast cancer.

Alumni Gathering at Fenway Park

CBA hosted its annual alumni gathering in Boston on Tuesday, August 21 at Fenway Park for the Red Sox vs. Indians game. The game brought together Brothers from Boston, Connecticut, and Albany.

Alumni had a great time catching up with old teachers and classmates.
