Spring Festival Concert

The Music Department hosted the Spring Festival Concert on May 22 in the Ned McGraw Gymnasium. The concert featured performances by the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Mallet Percussion Ensemble and Wind Ensemble, followed by a finale that featured the combined talents of all CBA musicians.

Officers’ Commissioning Ceremony

On May 21, CBA held its annual Officers’ Commissioning Ceremony. The Class of 2020 went through leader selection earlier this month and were measured in a number of different categories, ranging from GPA and merits to their ability to influence and train fellow classmates.

2nd Annual #BronationDay a Success!

CBA’s 2nd annual #BronationDay raised $109,150.80 from 702 donors breaking last year’s record and enabling us to modernize and transform our lecture hall.  #BronationDay is a full day of giving, fun, and spirit, and this year the CBA community was truly incredible.

Mother-Son Breakfast

The annual Mother-Son Communion Breakfast was hosted on May 5. The day started out with Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany, followed by brunch at the Albany Capital Center. This tradition has been a beautiful way for our students to thank and celebrate their moms, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and other important women in their lives. Special thanks to the Parents Association for planning this event.

 

Coaches vs. Cancer

On May 4, the varsity baseball team participated in the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game at the Joe Bruno Stadium. The Brothers faced Guilderland High School in an effort to strike out cancer.

NHS/NJHS Induction Ceremony

On May 1, 28 students were inducted into the National Honor Society and 14 into the National Junior Honor Society. Induction into this prestigious national organization is based upon student efforts and achievements in scholarship, leadership, character, service, and citizenship.

Strength In Unity — The Brotherhood

When I am asked what separates Christian Brothers Academy from other Catholic High Schools in the Capital District, my response is always the same: Brotherhood. Brotherhood refers to the special bond every student shares that helps them to succeed even in times of stress or turmoil. Whenever a student is in need academically, spiritually or socially, he is not afraid to ask for a helping hand. As a freshman, I had the privilege of experiencing Brotherhood in its truest form when I came down with a crippling case of mononucleosis that kept me out of school for two full weeks.

CBA Raises $15,000 for Water for South Sudan

Four years ago, the freshman class read the book A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. The novel shares the story of lost boy Salva Dut, who fled his war-torn country of Sudan in search of a better life. Many years after settling in Rochester, NY, Salva started the nonprofit Water for South Sudan to bring life-changing clean water to remote rural communities in South Sudan.
